Tours of Amsterdam-based retailers, wholesale produce and floral markets, as well as visits out of central Amsterdam to production facilities offer a varied insight into the nuts and bolts of the Dutch produce industry. Selected tours will also take in local foodie and cultural destinations.

The tour of BEETZ will take place on the morning of Friday November 4, from 08.30 – 14.00.

Attendees will enjoy travel to and from the venue, a tour of the fields and preparing facilities, followed by an inspiring session on beetroot at the Experience Centre by BEETZ own chef, Erik, in which, beside beetroot, topics like organic produce, a connected supply chain approach, and innovation will be highlighted. Attendees will also learn about their organic vegetable farming methods and experience their range of convenience products before being treated to a delicious, beetroot-inspired lunch in the most glorious of settings.

This through-the-keyhole tour will take you on a fantastic beetroot experience like no other. Whether you are a buyer, category manager, press, a food blogger, or you just really, REALLY like beetroot, you will be sure to come back well-informed, full and, more than likely, a curious shade of of pink.

A group of up to 30 will have the opportunity to visit Robinson Fresh and C.H. Robinson on Friday November 4. Robinson Fresh not only specialises in supplying fresh produce but offers an abundance of fresh solutions – from customer insights and marketing support, to category and inventory management. Their sister-company C.H. Robinson, is one of the world’s largest third-party logistics providers (3PL), providing a broad portfolio of logistics services, fresh produce sourcing and Managed Services through their global network. In Europe, C.H. Robinson is one of the leading road transportation and freight forwarders with a dynamic network of offices across the region.

The day will start at 09.00 with a visit to the C.H. Robinson / Robinson Fresh headquarters in Amsterdam where attendees will be given a presentation on the company by Gary York, Director of Global Sales, on their logistics operation as well as an overview of Robinson Fresh and their activities. The group will then be taken on a guided tour of the headquarters before moving on at 10.30 to The Food Center Amsterdam, a wholesale market boasting the largest and most diverse assortment of fresh produce in Holland. The agenda will include a guided tour of the market and an overview of the running of the site.

The day will conclude with a visit to Amsterdam’s Foodhallen, where participants can do a spot of food shopping and grab a bite of lunch from one of the wonderful stalls run by independent merchants. You can expect to arrive back at the Hilton Amsterdam at around 14.00.

Agro Merchants Logistics Tour

Ever wanted to delve into the workings of a top-class storage and logistics operator? Intrigued by the ins and outs of handling, packing, storage AND distribution on an international level? Then don’t miss out on this action-packed tour of the family-owned Agro Merchants Group.
The Agro Merchants Group tour will take place on the morning of Friday November 4, from 08.30-16.00, and will begin at their Opticool facility, an area comprising 19,000 square metres of temperature-controlled space, located in the Port of Rotterdam. Here you will find out all about their key fresh produce logistics services; inbound transport, warehousing, inspections, repacking, and retail labelling.

Next you will be treated to a relaxing two hour boat trip from the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest sea-port, totalling more than 40km in size, with an impressive annual throughput of some 465 million tonnes, to Maasvlakte 2 and the Hook of Holland. Enjoy a delicious lunch courtesy of Agro Merchants Group onboard while you cruise!

Lastly, the tour will conclude with a visit to ADB Cool Company, a family business that was founded over 80 years ago and acquired by the Agro Merchant Group in April 2015. Arriving at approximately 14.00, tour participants will visit and learn about ADB’s modern facilities available for the storage, treatment and logistical handling of perishables with 150,000 cubic metres comprising 15,000 pallets, 48 cooling and freezer rooms, all with the ability to set the temperature between -25°C and 55°C. This state of the art facility combines the newest generation cooling and freezer rooms with moveable racks and direct access to eleven dock corridors leading to cooling and freezer rooms, and sorting and packing rooms.

Whatever your role within the fresh produce industry, this tour has something to offer everyone. The day’s itinerary will give a truly unique insight into the logistics of working with fresh produce, with experts on hand at every step, armed with a wealth of information to share with you.
